No frostbite ride

It was a little dampish, but no rain and thankfully, much warmer. It was 54 degrees to start, a welcome respite from the biting cold we have had to endure the past few weeks. Joe, Terry, Brian S., and Doug showed up for a great ride and excellent pancakes. We are thankful for the warm day, but we will have to be prepared for anything the next 6 weeks or so.
Daylight savings time starts tonight, so we will look to schedule some midweek rides to help get in condition for TOSRV. For now, let's shoot for Tuesday and Thursday, start at 5:30 at Derr and Hunt. We'll vary the routes so we don't get bored. Something like this:
1. Urbana with a stop at Crabill's, about 21 miles.
2. CJB with a stop at Mic's, about 26 miles.
3. Catawba with a stop at Catawba Mall, about 26 miles.
4. Christiansburg, stopping at Loretta's, about 40 miles.
I'm sure we can come up with additional destinations. In the meantime, keep on hammering.

OK Then!!!

I'll be ready for tomorrow, i'll shine up all my beads and stuff and just let it all hang out!! what a wonderful ride it will be!!!

Crabill Burgers!

After hearing about James' ride last Thursday, I've been craving those Crabill burgers. Well, last evening I rode up and got some. It was windy but not cold at all, and it was dark when I got home, but totally worth the effort. I made it back in time for 'Survivor'. I only had 3, though. I feel like such an amateur compared to James and Caleb.
For tomorrow it looks like early rain, but 55 degrees to start. Unless it's a monsoon, I will ride. I will probably want to add fenders after this one. The Schwinn (1963) archives shows chrome fenders as an option for $3.00. I think I'll tell Steve I want that deal. He'll get a good laugh out of that.

Saturday 3/7 ride

Well, it looks like this Saturday will have much improved ride conditions. The latest forecast shows a low of 55 and a high of 67 with a chance of isolated storms. I wouldn't put the tights away, yet. It is March, so expect anything. We'll be shy a few riders. Maybe we can go back to the original route out which should get us to Catawba at 8:30 or so. I just love those hills.
Don't forget, this weekend we "spring forward" and go to daylight savings time. That will make it much better for evening rides. We will do some midweek Urbana rides, then later we will do some Christiansburg evening rides to get ready for TOSRV.
Soon, I will post a listing of rides this year, including some of the more significant training rides. Keep checking back. We will modify (and lengthen) the traditional Saturday rides as needed to help us prepare for the major organized rides.
This weeks rides will be pretty tame compared to the excellent adventure ride last Saturday. James did a great job of organizing the "amazing race". Aaron and Doug came in first, but everyone had a great time hunting for various goodies at CJB. By the time I got home, my legs were screaming. In pain, but "sweet" pain. Of course, the head wind and cold temps were an additional element to deal with. Take a couple of Advil, jump in the shower, and go to bed. Next day, almost good as new. Wonder, "Am I getting to old for this"? No, not yet. Not by a long shot.
I am looking forward to the first "no frostbite" ride of the year.
