UCI to check for electric bikes at Tour de France

LIESTAL, Switzerland -- Cycling's governing body will perform tests at this year's Tour de France to ensure that racers are not cheating by using motors hidden in their bicycle frames.

The International Cycling Union said in a statement that "a scanner will be used from the time of the Tour de France."

Yahoo! BuzzRecent speculation has focused on Swiss rider Fabian Cancellara, who denied he won Paris-Roubaix and the Tour of Flanders this year with the help of a motorized bike.

A video posted on various websites appears to show Cancellara pushing a button on the handlebars of his bike during both races.

The UCI implemented the measure during a management committee meeting in Birmingham this week, where it decided that it was "necessary to bolster measures that have already been put in place, in particular the visual inspection of bicycles, a procedure that was recently reinforced."

According to the UCI, the scanner will be useful in detecting any devices that might be concealed in the frame.

Fathers Day Crit in Worthington

Dan M. and I went to Worthington for a 20 mile crit masters race and at the starting line I realized two problems: 1)the course had a stair step climb 2)there were 5 guys wearing the same team kit. The race got underway and of course the other team worked very well together and started attacking us on the first lap(one guy would attack on the downhill section and then another one would attack on the hill), we covered everything for the first half of the race. I finished 5th and Dan 6th. overall a good result and then in one more act of teamwork the winning team brought us a cold beer.

Ouch!

Wanted to ride with you Joe but I rode again last night and took another spill but this one actually hurt. I have a knot in my left butt cheek and it hurts. Knees are stiff also. Resting today and will ride again tomorrow. Two falls in one day...now that hurts!
