Sweet Drinks Cut Testosterone Levels


It would be, perhaps, an overstatement to say that Coca-Cola turns men into girls, but Coke does raise glucose levels significantly, and research conducted at Massachusetts General Hospital has found that jacking up blood sugar levels can cut testosterone by as much as 25 percent. Yes, 25 percent. One quarter. HealthDay reports on the recent study, which required 74 men to drink 75 grams of pure glucose, which typically triggers a spike in blood sugar levels, and then have their testosterone levels tested. And..and, the envelope please.HealthDay reports that testosterone dropped by as much as 25 percent after the men drank the sugary drink. This trend continued, the journal reports, for more than two hours after the glucose was ingested. Wait, there's more: Fifteen percent of the 66 men with normal testosterone levels before the test had low testosterone ("hypogonadism") at some point during the test.What's wrong with low testosterone?
