My 1963 Schwinn Sierra single speed conversion. I was going to hang it on the wall, but I figured I may as well use it. The horizontal drop-outs in the back give you the adjustment you need for a single speed. I removed the front and rear Huret Alvit derailers and had Steve remove the 5 gear cluster and put on a 16-tooth freewheel. In the front, we're on the 40 tooth small ring. It seems about right for me. The original black leather saddle came apart years ago and I didn't know how to deal with it so I replaced it. I now wish I had kept it. The fenders, of course, are new. I unbolted and removed the 52-tooth big ring. Even with the stuff removed,
The question is, will it ride on Saturday in lite snow?? Nice Ride!
ReplyDeleteI love the classic look, full chrome fork and chrome fenders. I think you need to spring for a brooks saddle. Now that would really be sweet. Nice ride terry, thanks for posting the pic.
ReplyDeleteTerry, I think we could shave a few ounces if we just cleaned that front chain ring a bit.
ReplyDeleteYou got me there, Tracy. I should be ashamed to have such an untidy chain ring. In the next few months I should have ample opportunity to clean things up. I'll post some new pics then.
