Saturday ride report

Well, the south ride went off as planned. Terry, James, Tracy, and Brian C. hooked up at Beatty and departed southbound at 7:00. Brian left early since he had coughed up a lung earlier in the week and thus was only operating on one lung. There was a furious chase, and we finally caught him somewhere south of Oregonia. He performed very well, for only having one lung. We were pacelining like crazy, but we only caught him because he decided, for fun, to take a side trip up an incredibly steep hill we encountered along the bike path. James, Tracy, and I, not wanting to be left out of the fun, went up as well. The part we saw from the bike path went up to about 15%, then it took a hard left, and the part we couldn't see, went up at about 21%. The trip down was exciting, and that hard turn after the 21% was crazy. I was using all the brakes I had. It was the only time I've ever felt that my brakes were inadequate. We turned somewhere past Morrow and finished with 100 miles and change. A great ride.
James, Tracy, and I will plan on the London loop on Sunday. Depart Joe's at 1:00. Bring your map, Joe.

Update - Saturday ride 4/25

Alright, boys and girls, here is the Saturday program. We meet at Cracker Barrel Leffel Ln. at 6:00 AM. After breakfast we drive over to Beatty and depart at around 7:00. We ride south, potentially to Morrow, then return. Lunch en route someplace? We need to shoot for a return at 3:00. Probably 85-100 miles total. Temperature should start out around 60°, up to a high of 83°, but winds SW at 23 mph. I always say it's better to buck a headwind going out, than back. The extended saddle time will be great preparation for TOSRV in 2 WEEKS. Air up the tires and lube up the chain, let's go ride!
I will not be riding tonight, but should be at Fitness Cellar for spinning at 3:30 Fri.

ALT Saturday Ride

There will still be a regular ride from Moorefield to Catawba on Saturday for those who haven't got the time for a long ride, 7am to Cawawba for breakfast and then back, either or,up to you! joe

Saturday ride plan 4/25

This Saturday the weather is supposed to be beautiful, so I think some of us will want to go long. At least 2 will still go from NM to Catawba on the normal schedule, but optionally those who want can meet at Cracker Barrel at 6 or 6:30, then depart Beatty for a ride to Loveland or so. It would be 113 miles total. Details are still being worked out. Stay tuned. It will be 2 WEEKS TO TOSRV

Sunday (4/19) ride report

It was, shall we say, unpleasant, but the forecast was much worse than the actual conditions. James and I ignored fear and common sense (and the forecast), and had a nice ride down the bike path to Youngs. We fought the chilly intermittent rain, and a stiff head wind, but were rewarded with a nice supper and a good tail wind on the ride back. Bike path through the city was excellent, with no glass or debris. I had all but convinced myself that Sunday was going to be a no-ride day but then I read the blog and, not wanting to be left out of all the fun, I kitted up and headed out. I'm glad I did. It looks like Tuesday might be a similar situation. We just need to suck it up and go, because Saturday is 2 WEEKS TO TOSRV!!! More about which forthcoming shortly.
