Update on todays ride

I just went out and there is a slight covering on the road i would say i/2 inch, not frozen, im gonna ride, i don't think its gonna get worse, but if it does, we can drive up from here if you all think it's tooo bad, ok! So dress to ride and we'll call it at tip off! jj PS i also lower my air pressure from 100 down to 80lbs, safer thata way!

Guilt ride

I was watching TV, feeling bad about how I skipped out on the New Years day ride, so I got up off the couch, brushed off the potato chip crumbs, got kitted up, and went for a ride. I rode out to CJB, did a lap, then came back. I finished with 24 miles. See you tomorrow.

Must be why were so Happy all the time?

How Much Exercise Does It Take to Beat the Blahs?
In Scotland, where the winter blahs have been honed to high art, researchers wondered how much exercise, exactly, it should take to escape the gravity of "psychological distress." The study, which correlated exercise and mental health of nearly 20,000 Scots and is published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine found a surprising answer ...not much. The researchers found that mood improvement can start with as little as 20 minutes a week of any physical activity--even housework or yard work, which may offer the benefit of having a clean house. The New York Times reports that researchers also found that “participation in vigorous sports activities” tended to be the “most beneficial for mental health.”

Last ride of 2009

I just wanted to get one more ride in for 2009. Some might even say last ride of the decade (depends on how you count it). It was very a peaceful ride, except for the one lady who tried to run me off the road (you know who you are). I just love people who get pleasure in doing that. Just want to wish everyone a happy new year and many happy miles indoors and out.
I would like to also challenge everyone to divulge their new years resolutions - Biking only. example: mile goals for the year, special rides, you get the idea.
Mine are:
Climb to Clingmans Dome or any long mountain climb.
Better last years Calvin's challenge time. (maybe)
More commuting miles; like trips to the store and ride to work days (reduce my carbon foot print).
5000 total miles in 2010 indoors + out.
Maintain my core workout routine (Kettlebells Joe).
Eat better, more fruits & veggies.
Enjoy the ride. Devote one day per week to just riding for no purpose. just fun. Maybe even take my camera along.
Whats yours?

Mountain bike

I am working on getting a mountain bike this summer. And here are the two I am eyeing.

I have spent about 45 minutes practicing getting in and out of the pedals and I haven't fallen yet. I have found the secret.

I could have been a good DI!

Ok girls, i don't care what kind you use as long as you can track your miles, Janurary 1 we start with the trainer miles plus out side miles, so i don't exspect Anyone to have less than 300 per month!!I an't riding with no SiS's next year! Remember, She does the cooking inside, we do the cooking outside!! Got IT?

If your gonna go for it in the May!

If your gonna go for it in the May! then this is what i got to say!

Christmas gifts

Along with pedals and shoes I also got "the light" for my bike and a new stem. Yeah, and next is that Trek. Wife bought a new car yesterday so I too will have to rely on someone else to get it for me. Still have $50 gift card. Any suggestions?

Talk About Shackin Up!

Any you guy's gonna do after Christmas shopping and you want to pick me up one of these, i would appreciate it, it should be on sale for about $14,000 if it's not on back order, thanks jj

Yes!

I think I tried to make it rocket science. Was going the wrong way (you called it). The pedals are on. Now to make adjustments.

By the way, I am joing a gym tonight. Pass the medicine ball!

Left or Right?

What do you mean, you don't understand? It's not Rocket Surgery! You see you don't have to remember which way the pedals go on and off! It's Simple! DUH!

HELP!

I now have new pedals and shoes and have tried removing the pedals. I know it isn't brain surgery but I can not get them loss. I realize that one side is reverse threaded. I have used a wrench and hammer but with no success. Any suggestions.

I know, Joe, if I wasn't such a baby I would be on a kick bike which would make me stronger which would give me the muscle to loosen the pedal. :)

Cool and a WoW!

For years, runners have been able to take advantage of Nike+, a nifty accessory that lets your iPod communicate with your shoes to turn it into a personal running coach of sorts. Soon, cyclists will have access to a tool that’s in the same vein as Nike+, but far more powerful. It’s called Pedal Brain, and it allows your iPhone or iPod Touch to receive and interpret data from a variety of exercise devices that use the ANT+ wireless protocol. ANT+ is used by cyclists (including many professionals) to accurately measure and analyze their performance over a ride, but until now there hasn’t been a way to connect these devices to your iPhone.
That’s where Pedal Brain comes in. The bootstrapped startup is making a small device called the Pedal Brain Synapse that plugs into your iPhone or iPod Touch and allows them to receive this data, which is then interpreted by an iPhone app. The application shows you how you’re performing in real-time (you’ll want to mount your iPhone in plain view) and can also use GPS to show the position of your team members. Once you’ve completed your ride, you’ll be able to log on to the Pedal Brain site to get more detailed analysis. The site will also have an integrated platform for coaches, so you sign up to get your own trainer to help plot your future rides and track your progress.
Pedal Brain founder Matt Bauer acknowledges that there are a handful of other cycling applications available for the iPhone, like Map My Ride, but says that these only offer basic data. That’s because they rely on your phone’s GPS for data, which can help gauge the distance you’ve travelled but can’t measure many of the things that ANT+ devices can. Bauer explains that power (in Watts) is a common metric used to gauge your progress, and can’t be accurately determined using GPS alone.
Pedal Brain’s iPhone/iPod accessory, which has already been approved by Apple, will be available through local bike shops this spring. The company is targeting a March release date and plans to sell the device for between $130 and $190. The online service will be subscription based, though users will be able to get a limited version for free (you won’t be able to track your data for longer than a couple weeks).

The BOB is out and about!!

If i wasn't a bit twisted,i wouldn't be out here waving at you on the inside there! hahahahha!! Happy New Year Slackers!! hahahahahah!!!!

How they train, is there secret! Footbike/Kettlebells?

Now Garmin-Slipstream pro cyclist Tom Danielson (who currently holds the record for the fastest ascent of Mt. Washington, New Hampshire, in the Race to the Clouds competition, and the record time for the Mt. Evans Hill Climb in Colorado, which traverses the highest paved road in North America) has put it out on twitter:
I’m taking my offseason training to a new level. Just finished footbiking the peak to peak. http://www.footbikeusa.com/
