George Rogers Park Challenge

Boys, I did this course 5 times today. Yes I was able to follow all 9 of the complicated directions, George. It was a blast. I haven't been to George Rogers Clark Park for several years and forgot how nice it is. The road is in pretty nice shape and certainly better than many I've ridden. The only down side is going around the barriers, but it was not nearly as difficult or slow as I would have expected. And after talking to one of the guys in charge there, it may get better. They seem really interested in getting more people into the park, and I for one will be back to ride and to enjoy the park with the family. I encourage you to take the challenge and enjoy one fine park that is very underused for its splendor. Not a whole lot of road but I came up with about 190 feet of climb in the 3 mile course as listed. It would make a fun criterium course if the barriers were opened and the roads closed off, and after the conversation I had, I bet they would be open to the idea.

Here are my numbers on the 4 laps of actual effort as recorded on the garmin. If you know how I'll send you the course data, although I didn't have my HR monitor with me.

Lap1: Distance 3.16 ; Time 9:28:03 ; Avg Spd 20.03 ; Max Spd 39.7 ; Avg Pace 2.59 ; Avg Cad 89 ; Cal 242 ; Total Asc 194ft
Lap2: Distance 3.12 ; Time 9:41:13 ; Avg Spd 19.3 ; Max Spd 38.4 ; Avg Pace 3:06 ; Avg Cad 84 ; Cal 239 ; Total Asc 199ft
Lap3: Distance 3.08 ; Time 10:08:24 ; Avg Spd 18.3 ; Max Spd 37.3 ; Avg Pace 3:17 ; Avg Cad 79 ; Cal 237 Total Asc 190ft
Lap4: Distance 3.06 ; Time 10:05:58 ; Avg Spd 18.2 ; Max Spd 37.3 ; Avg Pace 3:17 ; Avg Cad 83 ; Cal 210 Total Asc 180ft

How I climbed different distances each time I don't know, maybe I stood more on some... Obviously I was wearing down a bit each lap but I felt pretty even after the first lap and with slowing for going around the gates you can come up with pretty different times depending on how daring you feel.

Who's next???
