More on Tommy's climbing ability

Tom Danielson holds the record for the Bob Cook Hill Climb which is held every year on Mount Evans, which I can see from my apartment. The race starts in Idaho Springs at 7,450'. The finish, 24.7 miles later, is at 14,130 at the peak of Mount Evans. Tommy holds the record, 1:41:20. Trees stop growing at about 11,000' due to lack of oxygen.

I will now take questions.  Yes, Joe.

Joe: Mike, you've climbed Mount Evans, how does a fat bloke like yourself compare to Tommy on the climb?

Me: Yes Joe, I did climb Mount Evans last August. Unfortunately, my performance was not quite as good as Tommy's. My ride time was about 2:30:00. With rests, 3:59:00. Of course I did start at Echo Lake. I cut out about the first 10 miles and started at 10,750'.

  1. I don't care how much time it took, just riding to the top sounds like an accomplishment!
