More on Tommy's climbing ability
Tom Danielson holds the record for the Bob Cook Hill Climb which is held every year on Mount Evans, which I can see from my apartment. The race starts in Idaho Springs at 7,450'. The finish, 24.7 miles later, is at 14,130 at the peak of Mount Evans. Tommy holds the record, 1:41:20. Trees stop growing at about 11,000' due to lack of oxygen.
I will now take questions. Yes, Joe.
Joe: Mike, you've climbed Mount Evans, how does a fat bloke like yourself compare to Tommy on the climb?
Me: Yes Joe, I did climb Mount Evans last August. Unfortunately, my performance was not quite as good as Tommy's. My ride time was about 2:30:00. With rests, 3:59:00. Of course I did start at Echo Lake. I cut out about the first 10 miles and started at 10,750'.

Saturday Ride 8/6
The slow dog will go Neer Road this Saturday, north on Brigner to Maple Grove Cemetery, then back on Mechanicsburg-Catawba, to Catawba. This would be 18 miles from Joe's to Catawba. Plenty of rollers to work the kinks out. For a shorter alternative, turn right on 56 from Brigner will take it down to about 13 miles. If you want to go even shorter, turn right at Neer and 54 and take 54 on in to Catawba. This is about 10 miles, but you would still be way ahead of the guys who sleep in and don't show.
This route was selected to get around the chip and seal, which is coming soon to a rural road near you. I can't guarantee that we won't encounter some chip and seal, but I know for a fact that they recently did Prairie, County Line, and Buck Creek Rd. Racing on marbles is not fun, at least not for the old dogs. That will put the damper on our north route for a while.
They are calling for isolated storms, 30% chance of rain, but it is most likely in the afternoon. Should be a perfect ride day! I will swing by James at 6:40, then Joe's at 7:00.
PS- Joe will be kicking Saturday
